Thank You, dear Albert. I just realized You kindly commented too. Sorry. It looks like the subject isn't so much stimulating though, not even an impressionist emulator here. I was nonetheless glad to have hosted in this thread Brett's most artful interpretation!

perhaps we gave up after the definitive masters have already covered the subject so well. or maybe everyone was busy with the nice weather. I promise to try. It's a beautiful reference picture for sure.

Really nice photo to practice on. I'll try that too
As Albert says, believe that the commitments and the good weather are responsible for just a few clicks .... Then this forum is so wide that, only the gallery, works very hard to follow (especially for those who aren't native speakers of English)

Here's my two interpretation, one in watercolor and knife(pencil blender) and one with very rich oil and loaded knife.
    Hope you like
Maybe in the future I'll try with other tools....

Accidenti, cara Silvia!
    Bravissimissima!

They are both beautiful Silvy, and I like the knife work one the best. It has great energy.

    Grazie Cesare, molto gentile

Many thanks Albert, we'll wait for yours

Thank you very much Brett, I like so much your watercolor, is spontaneous and freshly.

I think it could be an interesting and challenging self-trial for each one willing to try too, whatever the style, including abstract or fauve.
I like this. Very unusual. How did you achieve that 'fish eye lens effect?

    Thank you, dear Kris.
As for You question, no filter or other complex virtual aid, rather a simple procedure using Artrage features. Actually I got the original painting (apart from taking the picture into an oval frame) by using an underneath layer where I smeared thick paint from tube in order to get some sort of lens like relief. You may then use Bump Blend Mode with substitute, so as to apply the lens bump to the uppar layer. You may finally drag appropriately also on the upper layer with the soft knife to move the paint so as to enhance the effect.
Now You may give a try to paint Genoa and add a second version where You may check directly the distortion procedure too ...
