    Caesar - I think you are right, I'll see if I can do something to provide some separation. Other than doing some color manipulation, I can't take credit for the background. I could have painted something similar, but couldn't spare the time, so I borrowed a background for this.
    Katie - You are very kind. Thank you, altho, the background was borrowed, so I cannot take credit for that.

    I would put a sensibly lighter tone (thinned and with the upper forest light color) on the upper border of his head and shoulder which follows the shape and make some tone transition (gradient) form those highlighted lines down to the darker shaded parts .... Maybe it could work ad it would be rasonably simple and fast to try.

    Nicely done Mike and yes it will make a good book cover.
    Of the two images I think a little compromise of the two is called for as maybe the second one may be just a little dark.

    Couldn't get the pre-made background and my painted figures to agree, so I dumped the background and did my own.
