Poweful and well done Katie![]()
Katie.. wow.. yes the deep reds and great posing of the figures make this a powerful statement... I like the low view point like the viewer is just off stage and getting to see the dancers preparing... quite a metaphor if you think about it..
Very interesting image, Ms Coops. Not just the red shoes anymore, but the red passion pours throughout like the passion an up and coming ingénue might project onto the whole idea of pursuing a lifetime of performing. She seems to be tying her shoe on as an indicator of preparing, while the older dancer looks to have been performing and holds command of the stage when she takes it time and again. A sort of dancing continuum represented between them.
Interestingly, I see a little of Toulouse Lautrec style in the elder of the two -- not so much in the technique, but more in the shapes of the head, posture and so on, while the girl looks more modern and unstylized. So in a way, it could be an extra little 'adjective' in this statement.
Very articulate image, Ms Coops. I like it.
Bartender, fix me a moon river. . .in a TIFFANY GLASS!!!!!!!
Aesthetic and impressionism, Degas certainly comes to mind with the theme, ballet. Though he found that they were realists, as he didn't like the term impressionism. He found he painted what he saw, and I have a feeling that your way of grounding in a colour theme, with some contrast as variation, in my mind comes closer to impressionism, in the term, dreamer.
Beautiful

A most impressive painting....![]()
Thanks for your wonderful comments Sandy, Pat and Gary.
Dear Mr Akey, you must have remember that The Red Shoes is my favourite ballet I just adore that film even though it is so old. Your comments are really astounding as my daughter-in-law was a professional ballerina and my grand-daughter also is a dancer even though she is only 13yrs old. So in my mind she is waiting in the wings of her aunt and will spread her wings too and this was kind of what was going though my mind when I was painting this one. Thank you again for taking the time to express what you see
Thank you Amanda and Kenmo,as always your comments are so very kind![]()
