This is a superb artpiece indeed, artistically and phylosophically!

A powerful reminder of human weakness in front of evil, no matter how resolute we think to be to pursue virtues.
The cock in here has such an intense and serious expression that it seems to acknowledge the important teaching role its morning sound plays in the Gospel the day Jesus was going to die on the cross, while all of his apostles (but the one who sold Him and suicided and the one the under the cross with His Mother) scared by the events, left Him alone. Peter, selected as the future Church leader denied His Master! Vain pride of men and unlimited, loving mercy of our Lord!
Only Mary, with her absolute faith and the women, among His disciples, seem not to have abandoned Him, which is a quite meaningful fact.
