Dear Knelson, a new question always helps this old dog learn something new, when Someonesane suggests something i try it out, give it a chance, maybe use different settings, seems the precise settings smoothes out my wrinkles, good luck!

The difference in look between Photoshop's circles and the ones in ArtRage here is probably due to way we handle the points we're sent for input rather than speed of processing. If you're using the inking pen (pr pencil) it's only processing color so speed-wise it shouldn't be an issue, but unless Smoothing is turned on we don't post-process the incoming points and it can sometimes get this sort of look on fast strokes.

If there's a wobble in the input (which becomes really obvious if it's happening and you make really slow circles) you can turn on Smoothing which should get rid of it after the stroke has been finished. With the pencil, Smoothing is available in Precise mode.

Another thing to check is that your tablet drivers are up to date. It's possible that older drivers could exacerbate the problem.

I'm no expert at drawing circles, (or anything tbh) however, here are some circles done with pencil and pen, niether had smoothing applied, the ones with the blue crosses were done very fast and as you can see they are similar to the OP's

My Setup: iMac 24" Alu 2.4 Core2Duo (late 2007), 4GB RAM, Wacom Bamboo (CTE-650), OS X 10.6.6

The first picture shows ArtRage 2.5 (Wacom Edition bundled with my tablet): the yellow "circle" is OK here for me (look at the left side of the brush stroke)

Second picture: ArtRage 2.6: The "polygonal" drawing lines were introduced with this version (on my mac)

Same here with AR 3 Studio Pro. I have made peace with this... so far ;-)

I think some Mac hardware configurations show this strange behavior.

Have you turned on the "Precise Tablet" option? Because that looks exactly like what I'd get with it turned off. The last update for 2.6 added the option to the preferences panel.

it has kind of a medium to soft touch. too much pressure on a tablet will make it go
into erratic angles.

Alright, first, thanks to everyone who replied. ^^

So, after trying each of you guys' advices, I re-installed my tablet drivers (I have a Wacom Intuos4 and a Bamboo Fun Pen&Touch) and spent some time messing with the softness / pressure / smoothing levels. Unfortunately nothing has really changed in the way Artrage behaves to me, using any of my tablets. :/

I also tried the preset the user 'gzairborne' shared here (thanks a lot for your effort!), but it doesn't really change its behavior either, sadly. Enabling/disabling the "precise tablet" option, despite changing the way the strokes look, doesn't eliminate the problem, which is the lines looking angled (as seen in the attachment).

I'm starting to believe it might have something related to what the user 'Ole Seegelken' said. Maybe macs have something in their configuration that causes this issue when using Artrage (it'd be cool if other mac users could confirm that for me, since I don't have a clue).

Anyway. Thanks a bunch for the help, guys. ^^ If anyone knows anything else about this issue, let me know!
