Hi, Ken!
SketchBook Pro gives me speed.. it is very simple program to use..
there is basic layers but no blending modes like ArtRage or Photoshop.
What I like most about SketchBook is Transformation tools, Symmetry tools,
and Rulers which are very basic but effective and helps a lot when doing
early concepts of compositions.
SketchBook interface is also very clever and fast to use.. zooming, rotating
canvas, or transforming Layers -> Scale, Rotate, Move, Scretch.
These also works much faster than in ArtRage. Also canvas size is not a
problem when working with SketchBook. ArtRage is very slow when you work
with print size material and use a lot of Layers. This is big problem
sometimes
What I like about ArtRage is it's ability to make easily different kind of
textures, thanks to it clever canvases. Each layer can have a different kind
of canvas texture and you can adjust anytime these, this is great.
Of course ArtRage offer very realistic Natural media tools which are
interesting. I like a lot ArtRage watercolors. SketchBook Pro seems very cold
and digital.
"I am longtime Painter user(almost ten years), but now it's gathering dust."
This sentence is not true anymore..
.. because somehow I got installed Procreate Painter 7 for my Vista 64bit
machine.
Procreate Painter 7 gives me different kind watercolors = different textures.
Procreate Painter 7 is only version which I have really liked.. It is
somehow different how it handles watercolors, it reacts more fluidy
than a current versions like 11 and overall it feels more speedier now when I
have a new workstation. Same is true about Adobe Photoshop 7, which I
prefer more than CS3-CS5 (even if CS5 offers quite interesting new brush engine).
These are my tools, and I am using all of them.. =]
