The Dreaded Self Portrait! (WIP added page 3)

It has probably been at least 20 years since I have tried one of these. They are challenging on so many different levels it's ridiculous! It's difficult not to constantly try to correct what you don't like about yourself knowing that if you do, it won't be you! Urrggg! The other problem is that my mental image of myself is much younger and thinner so I feel like I'm painting an older person version of myself... but it's not, it's me! lol!!! Thanks for checking it out!

You have a lot of company on this one. I fear doing a self portrait for exactly the reason that I'm afraid I either won't be honest, or I won't like what I see (do)if I am honest!

Thank you Rose, Sandra, Neil, Scott, LSB, Belvrog, Oriane, and barnburner!

Hahaha, the reference photo I used I must admit is not one of the happiest looking photos of me but I liked the light in it. I wasn't really planning on posting this as I was painting it (otherwise I probably would have used a different reference of me). I think I will have it printed life-size on canvas and hung in the entryway of our home to scare the living daylights out of anyone who comes through our front door! LOL!

Neil - Too funny, my fathers nickname is Butch! Hahaha!

Eddie, terrific - mood, lighting, colors, spirit, and hey, a great looking guy. I can imagine how challenging, but you've delivered in your characteristic observation of detail that brings together a really satisfying whole. It's sometimes a bit customary here to say "you should fame this one", but, you know what, "you should frame this one."

Edit: Eddie: I see we crossed posts. You SHOULD paint it large and hang it. But it's not the least scary. It's just got such a wonderfully observed mood, and so much better than a typical happy face. Great character in here.

Second Edit: You know, at least here, you look a bit like Harrison Ford.
