    Scenes From Childhood

Thanks, Coop for you wonderful comment. That makes me very happy, and certainly, I am glad to see this picture of you. Looks like we had a similar hairdo. I love to get comments. It encourages me so much. I spent three months living in London, and I love the whole country--Beautiful!

    My Big Toe

Of course I really do not remember this as (a cute little baby). Well, I just added that about "cute", and I also added hair, because I was completely bald, at this age. I was told that my one big accomplishment was to suck my big toe. I can't say that I am particularly proud of that, but I was reminded of this a LOT later. Somethings you don't really want to know about your ("cute things?) when you were a baby. And I was not proud of being completely bald-so I just "gilded the lily", so to speak, by giving myself a head of hair. (Lying is not good), I know.

(The Cow)"Papa, please let me milk the cow!"

I plead to learn to milk the cow because it looked kind of "magical" to me.
After my brief lesson, I pulled and squeezed, and pulled and squeezed, but nothing happened, not even a drizzle of milk. So, I guess you could say that I failed at milking. I think that the cow knew right away that I was not a milkmaid. The milk got turned into a lot of wonderful things- butter, clabber, wonderful cream that was like a thick "skin", and tasted wonderful over fresh peaches. All of that was done by Mama, by straining and churning and lots of other hard work that produced delicious thinks to eat and drink.

    The Ten Cent Drugstore Photo

This is my cousin Frances and me-many summers ago in the drugstore. We look like a police lineup, and the picture was not worth ten cents.
This was during the Depression. At that time, ten cents was a good bit of money. It must have been Frances' money, because her parents owned a cotton
plantation in the Mississippi delta. Ever since she had been given a huge Shirley Temple doll, I knew they were wealthy. I had a rag doll-so that tells you something about my family. They were nice, but NOT wealthy. She had a playroom, and a china tea set. Well, I DID get to play there. I hope the picture is missing!

    The Vicious Rooster Rules

I was absolutely terrified by this vicious rooster, so much so that I could not venture into the back yard. He jumped and slashed with his long talons. I was hoping that they would make fried chicken of him soon, in order to rid me of this mean rooster. His only good quality was that he crowed,on top of the henhouse, early in the morning-at sunrise. I did not consider this a redeeming enough quality to keep him from the black iron skillet. I should feel sorry, but don't.

What a great stroll down all the wonderful memory lanes

Here's mine... just an old 2 x 12 plank , there was a dry ditch beside the house and I would get Dad to put the plank over it for me and then I sailed the world
