Beautiful Rik. I especially like the brush strokes in the tail and dorsal fin and the touches of light falling on him.
Maybe the background could be more out of focus to have us focus on the fine job you did on the fish. imho.

I have no idea what the original looks like, but just from looking at this, I would vary the red-orange somewhat to show variation like shadow and highlight -- and it probably doesn't need a lot. But usually for something this dark to begin with, I would first try adding a highlight (a little arc of slightly lighter color that is catching the light, running the length of the body more or less.) It will help give him some weight.
