I usually start my paintings with a bottom layer that I have blended paint dabs on to get the general layout....then I add detail on other layers on top. This one I didn't use reference picture its all fom my imagination.

Could you tell us something about your brushsettings ?

To do the base I had the brush set to 100% pressure size and loading, then to blend the paint I used 100% brush size 0% loading.
Then for the detail I used 2% size with 100% loading and about 95% thinner. For the foliage I used the glitter tool on 4% size then went over it with the eraser on a soft setting :D Haven't added much to it I have been too busy

The background is just fantastic....you have a great sense how to mix colors
Also the Grass is good in the second one! But now a bit disturb about this tree! it looks very flat and a bit to sharp! Maybe you should put more time in detailing out (i always ask me if the glitter tool is good for foliage :? )....
Just my 2 cents....

This is coming along nicely, Bumble. For some reason, the hills on the left are looking less 'hilly" to me than they did back in the second version you posted (within the first posting). That area looks a little flat to me - and the separation of clouds/fog and hills is doesn't seem right yet.
