I bought a new computer art magazine yesterday. It is called ImagineFX and is all about fantasy art. There was a poster included ; sized at 440 x 540 mm. That makes at 300 dpi a computer painting 5197 x 6378 pixels. If the dpi was even higher while painting it, or if the size of the poster was bigger and they shrunk it to get a more detailed printout, it means even more pixels!
I have to try ta make one of those gigantic images once, just for the try of it. I wonder if ArtRage and my computer can handle that big size?
If you want to see the poster image you find it here: http://www.darkrising.co.uk/Sky_Angel.htm

This is an 5197 x 6378 pixels ArtRage pic made entirely on one layer. ArtRage came up with some message that it could not manage more than one layer. That may be because of my computer that only got 1 GB ram. 2 GB would solve the layer problem I guess. Everything worked just as normal, not any slower that I noticed....
Andy, you can come out of the corner... :D

I am guessing you meant 1 GB and 2 GB... but just nit picking.
What level of magnification did you work at when creating the picture?

Yes, I meant 1 GB, else I guess I couldn't even start the computer. The "magnification" was 16%, I did not make a detailed painting as you can see. But I tried to zoom in and out and there were no problems with that. All tools worked just fine at any zoom level.
By the way; the image was 222 MB after saving it as a ptg file.
I also saved it as a psd (189 MB) and opened it in Corel Painter. I added 10 layers with no problems. Painter responded as it always does, no problems at all. So I guess there are some memory issues to solve wit ArtRage working in this big size and more than one layer.

Yeah, better memory-management for large documents is something on my 'to do' list.
In my defence (your honour), ArtRage deals with a LOT more information per layer than Painter or Photoshop. Whereas they typically are only dealing with the colour and transparency of the paint at any point, we have to deal with the depth of paint, wetness, amount of reflection, paper texture and all.
Which I guess is really more of an argument for me to sort out the memory management better!

just on the subject of ImagineFX , i just got the 4th issue today (its a Uk mag so maybe the 3rd issue has only just come out elsewhere?).
it had a readers letter praising Artrage2 and a small magazine review of AR2, it gave it 4 out of 5.
