I just did this sketch to try and get a true "Pastel" look.

To get started I scanned a sheet of rough water colour paper and then imported it. (Ingres didn't scan well.)

I kept to the Pastel tool up to the last second and then couldn't resist a wisp of steam from the Airbrush!

No dust all over the room, no greasy finger marks, no fixatives.

Now I'll try and get the shadows right.

Y'know, we were thinking we should release a mouse that leaks paint onto your fingers as you're painting. It would make the experience much more real.

Very nice pastel look.

Very nice! This is what I keep raving about. AR looks so natural. I had to show one co-worker the software in action so he would believe that I hadn't scanned one of my doodles. Good one Aged P.

I am delighted to say that this picture is now out of date.
Fashmir's inspired foray into Paper Textures means I can now simulate pretty well any paper surface on the planet.

I'm not sure whether this discussion should be in Technical General or Gallery.
ArtRage is so difficult to classify.

Any thoughts? Does it matter?

It's find to have discussion about a picture in the gallery. I'm always interested to know how it was done, and if there's a story behind the picture. If the discussion turns into a serious technical discussion about techniques we moderators can split if if necessary and let it carry on in the technical forum.

Really it's pretty relaxed here at the moment.
