Many of you use "web shortcuts" so that we can access larger versions of your pictures.

Which is the simplest site to use?
Is a blog better?

Dont know if this is exactly what you are looking for but I use http://www.photobucket.com/ to store stuff away from my computer (one lightning strike away from doom!!). Its free and you can paste links to specific pictures or entire albums.

Blogger is easy to use, so is photobucket, they both upload to the same size. So its personal preference.

Storage for photos and artwork + some social networking: Flickr (http://flickr.com).

Straight-forward storage: Photobucket's already been mentioned, and ImageShack (http://imageshack.us) is another popular one. No muss, no fuss, but your images are out there in some random space over which you have very little control. For example, before I created an ImageShack account, I anonymously uploaded a photo there a few years ago. Because I wasn't a member at the time, I can return to the publicly-accessible URL, but have no "ownership" over the image, so I haven't the slightest idea how to go about deleting it! That makes me just a tad uncomfortable. It's really probably a very subjective, psychological thing, but these mass image storage facilities just have a very different, somehow less secure feel to them (for me) than a place like Flickr or a personal blog. (And the more I talk about it, the more I realise how little sense I'm actually making, so I should shut up.)

A blog is another beast altogether. There is no disadvantage to starting a blog, and many advantages, not the least of which is the ability to post your image as a blog entry with a bit of your own commentary. Free, hosted blogs are the simplest solution, and there are a few of them about. As Jules mentioned, Blogger (http://www.blogger.com/start) is one of the most popular, but I'm rather partial to a relatively new kid on the block called Vox (http://www.vox.com). Both are equally easy to get up and running, but Vox is a little more newbie user-friendly. Blogger is more anonymous, more individual. Its purpose is to help individuals start blogging as easily and quickly as possible. Vox is more family- and community-oriented. There's a social networking aspect to it, as you have a "neighbourhood" that consists of friends, family, and randoms you decide are interesting enough to keep around. =] Now before you start shuddering uncontrollably, I'll have you know that I despise MySpace, but love Vox. I'd love to have some of my fellow ArtRage users join my neighbourhood there.

I do believe that Vox is scheduled to officially launch later this week, but until then it's by invitation only. Check it out, and if anyone's interested in signing up, just drop me a PM here (or an e-mail, and IM, whatever) with your e-mail address and name, and I'll be happy to send you an invitation.

OK guys and gals, a supplementary.

Some of these sites seem to knock the picture size down to a level that suits them.

Which ones don't?

I want to save a 1Mb picture and other people to be able to download it that size.

It is really just a work around for this Forum's file limits.

Ok AgedP Ive just been comparing theimagehosting with imageshack. I've just created a random image and uploaded it to both sites, to see what the difference is in file size viewing. theimagehosting allows file sizes up to 1 meg. Imageshack allows up to 1.5 megs.

Examples:

Hosted by www.theimagehosting.com
http://images6.theimagehosting.com/sample.4bb.th.jpg (http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.php?img=sample.4bb.jpg)

Hosted by www.imageshack.com
http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/2387/samplegr4.th.jpg (http://img324.imageshack.us/my.php?image=samplegr4.jpg)

Hope that helps. :D

Ive just been tinkering again, they seems to work the same.

Hi Jules,

Image Shack is better, (and this would have been easier to say without the wink. ), because it arrives in two stages.
I never knew how difficult it was to write a single entendre. :)

I'm going to give the VOX site a trial run first.

Not sure what you mean by two stages. If you meant it 'blurred in' that means that they converted the jpeg file from a standard jpeg to a progressive one. Some graphic programs let you choose which type you want.

Hi Sweenie Mini,

The photo is Marseilles, not my pic but it certainly changed my mental image of Marseilles!

One of the sites does the XP thing, a huge picture as it loads, then tidies itself up to fit in a normal window. Clicking on the little Orangey thing in the bottom right hand corner opens it up full size.

The other site just sends it full size straightaway. So on a large pic you have to scoot around with slide bars to see it all.

It's not a big difference as I copy and paste big pics to another package anyway.

Ah yes, the legendary Templar's Saint 6a00c225294ef18e1d00ccff9798216ea5-pi's Cathedral.

Unless I'm completely mistook, there's a clue to the Grail's whereabouts in the alcove with the floor mosaic based on the fabonaci code.

Hi D Akey,

I've tried that and when I lifted the tile I fell into a room full of snakes! :D

St 6a00c225294ef18e1d00ccff9798216ea5-pi was really big in the South of France, he invented fish soup, Brigitte Bardot and the Citroen 2CV.

Alas Phil, those are all false paths designed to distract one from the true Grail path.

Those clues lead to the Holy Mackrel, the Holy Cups, Batman and the Holy Rollers, respectively.

Hi D Akey,

I think you are right.

I have muddled up the legend with the later organisation, The Shirley Templars. Broad swords, tabards , hair bows and buckle shoes.

That's right. . . I think I saw them in Vegas. They opened for Liberace.

Hi D Akey,

That is sort of bad news /good news.

I tagged it at Vox with a "Draft" feature, which stopped it being viewed by anybody there. I wanted to see what happened if I then linked to it.

I'll free it up this evening and see if it automatically kills that message.

Phil

Yep it works now!
Nice simple control system at VOX.
