color picker tool?

Hi I downloaded the trial version and must say it is very cool. I was wondering if it is possible to pick colors from the artwork as you are working like you can in Photoshop and Painter or if you have to always pick colors from the palette.
I was also wondering if the full version allows for different size canvas and dpi

You can. There's a tool for it in the lower left (and a shortcut). The tool looks like an eyedropper called a Color Sampler - keyboard shortcut = 9

Check the help menu for all the "Keyboard Shortcuts".

Here are some tutorials they just put up that may help you get started. Don't know how much you can do with the free version. But the examples looked pretty smashing.
