I painted this one for last week's IllustrationFriday (http://www.illustrationfriday.com) topic "skyline". I just managed to complete it, and thus missed the deadline for IF, but i had fun working on it.
Original painting is more than 3000 pixels wide, with 4-5 layers. The tools i used are; oil brush, crayons, palette knife and eraser.

That's great! Not what I was expecting from the first draft that you showed to us, but very cute.
Too bad you missed the deadline though. If you do this weeks topic, "sacrifice", you could append it to the end of that one. I've seen other artists do that when they miss a week.

That's a great style.

Thanks Collin. I was actually planning to do it like this from the very beginning, but i had only painted the rooster head when i posted that wip, thus cropped the image to include only the head. Thanks for the "append" tip!

You must have had alot of fun painting this one!
You've really captured the whole essence of father/son sweetly in your characters.

Thank you Tony!
By the way, this (http://emremeydan.blogspot.com/2006/07/illustration-friday-sacrifice.html) is my entry for the IF topic "sacrifice". It's not done in Artrage though - it's my first attempt at watercolors.

That's a very cool watercolour.
Guess we'll have to put you on the beta list when we put watercolours into ArtRage, huh? ;)

Thanks Andy. Please do :D
BTW, these links might help you with how to approach the simulation of watercolors:
This is from 2001. I've tried it (on linux) and it has some realism. It's open-source, so you can't use the code, but maybe the approach might inspire you (assuming "inspiration" is legal). It's planned to be implemented in Krita (http://koffice.org/krita/) for further development.
Judging by the videos, this one looks quite impressive, but seems to be in development.
This is not about simulation, but there's a lot of technical information here about how watercolors "work", so that could be useful.

emremeydan- That's a delightful image. My wife and I both enjoyed the personality of your birds. Aptly titled too.
