Actually, this is more tense than Godzilla in the rubber suit ever was. I really get electric RAGE from this one. I think it may be the explosive tone underneath the stark black shape -- as if caught at the moment of an explosion -- a frame from a special effect from an animation.

I think that would work. Using blue/cool colors to highlight him should tie him into the background if you're worried he'd stand out to much.
