When I look at books containing art, I usually see something like: "Charcoal on paper" or "Oil on canvas" or some sort of medium designation.

What is the proper designation for a piece of art rendered using ArtRage?

Bits on Bytes?! :D

I suppose you could refer to the primary tool you used being done on whatever medium is most similar to the paper texture you used.

Honestly, I don't think that these labels work well for computer-based art. We may use tools that no one would combine in "physical art," and we may change the paper and texture every few minutes or by layer, or both. I think it would be better to simply indicate that it was done electronically.

Hum hum..

Digital painting?

It seems that in the Taschen book "Illustration Now!" they mention the software tools used for image and so they do in other places.

Traditionally real media, charcoal, pastels, oils, gouache, egg tempera,(there are a lot more, but brevity prevails) have all gone through their "new" period when artists were introduced to it for the first time.
Digital is so new comparatively that so are the conventions surrounding this new invention called digital. Long story short, be creative call it what you want, maybe it will catch on........

Most places I've seen digital art, weather online or in books, just say digital. I think it's nice when people at least designate 2D or 3D, and take it as a nice courtesy when they mention the actual software used. This seems to be the accepted norm on CGtalk. If I were to enter an image into a contest or online gallery I would say "Digital, 2D, ArtRage 2.11".

The verb is Artraged.

(I did digital painting at nursery school, we didn't have brushes so we used our digits!)

I artraged the outline in.
I artraged the background.

If we adopt this we could take over the world like Hoover did!

Digital Painting = Vacuum cleaning
Artraging = Hoovering

Photoshopping is a general term for altering photos etc, lets go for Artraging as the general term for painting with software!

Oooo... I like that idea.
We should see if we can hook it up to some kind of Internet Meme to get it spreading. "ArtRage this haiku on your blog and forward it to your friends with these instructions intact" kinda thing.

Hi Andy,

An additional link direct to the forum from Wikipedia would seem a good idea.

Better still if it pointed to the mooted Hall of Kings gallery.

(Dropping in the word artraging would also seem possible!)

A few more ArtRage tools at the bottom of column one?
